GIZMO is a research group founded in Milan in 2004 by Marco Biraghi, Gabriella Lo Ricco, Silvia Micheli and Mario Viganò. GIZMO deals with history and critic of architecture, with a particular interest to those phenomena which are at the sources of the contemporary architectural culture and to its development and transformations. Since 2008 GIZMO edit the history and criticism of contemporary architecture book series “Le Ombre” for Zandonai Publisher (Rovereto). In 2009 GIZMO opened a new webspace, gizmoweb.org, dedicated to modern and contemporary design, history and criticism of architecture. GIZMO edited the following texts: W. Gropius, Apollo nella democrazia, Zandonai, Rovereto 2009 and E.N. Rogers, Editoriali di architettura, Zandonai, Rovereto 2009. In 2010 GIZMO published Aa.Vv., Italia 60/70. Marco Biraghi
is Associate Professor and he teaches “History of contemporary Architecture” at the Faculty of Civil Architecture, Polytechnic of Milan.

Gabriella Lo Ricco
architect, is Adjunct Professor and she teaches “Criticism of Architecture” at the Faculty of Civil Architecture, Polytechnic of Milan. Gabriella received her Ph.D. in Architecture Design from the Polytechnic of Milan in 2010. Her Ph.D. work is concentrated on the work of the Italian architect Luca Meda.
In 2003 she published Lo spettacolo dell’architettura. Profilo dell’archistar©, Bruno Mondatori, Milan (with S. Micheli). She has also published essays in reviews and books about the history of architecture.
Silvia Micheli
architect, is Postdocatoral Research Fellow at The University of Queensland (Brisbane, Australia). Between 2008 and 2012, she taught ”History of contemporary architecture” at the School of Civil Architeture, Polytechnic of Milan. She received her Ph.D. in History of Architecture and Urabanism from IUAV, Venice, in 2007, where she studied the work of the Finnish architect Erik Bryggman (tutor Prof. Francesco Dal Co).
With Marco Biraghi and Gabriella Lo Ricco, she co-curated the exhibition “The architecture you like©” at MAXXI National Museum in Rome in 2010.
For the “Italiadecide Foundation” (Rome) in 2010 she investigated social housing issues (www.italiadecide.it).
Among her books are: Erik Bryggman (1891-1955). Architettura moderna in Finlandia, Gangemi, Roma 2009 and Lo spettacolo dell’architettura. Profilo dell’archistar©, Bruno Mondadori, Milan 2003 (with G. Lo Ricco). She co-edited MMX. Architettura Zona Critica, Zandonai, Rovereto 2010 and Italia 60/70.
